Explore Living Donation

For years, the award-winning Explore Transplant education program for dialysis patients and providers was adopted by transplant centers nationwide. While Explore Transplant touched on living donation, patients evaluating transplant as a treatment option were often not ready to seriously consider receiving a transplant from a living donor. Once they moved forward to be evaluated for transplant, they were poised to benefit from an education program that allowed them, their family and friends to fully explore living donation as a pathway to a longer, fuller life.

Strategic Approach

Explore Living Donation reconfigured research-tested Explore Transplant materials to allow transplant programs to provide concentrated education to two distinct audiences: (1) kidney patients and (2) their family and friends. Attractively packaged information packets offered literature and a DVD featuring emotional appeals, facts and risks, and tools to activate each audience.

Results

In the first six months of 2015, generated $120,000 in revenue from 17 transplant programs, and the program is ongoing.
