Nicholas' Gift 10th Anniversary

In 1994, seven-year-old Nicholas Green saved the lives of five people after being shot and killed during a family vacation. His family's donation of their son's organs to help Italians in need of life-saving transplants made international headlines and sparked "The Nicholas Effect," a tripling of donation rates in Italy.

Upon the Green family's relocation to Southern California in late 2004, OneLegacy was inspired to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Nicholas' gift of life with a media event at UCLA's Mattel Children's Hospital. Six television stations and two daily newspapers responded to the opportunity to meet organ donation's "first family."
